I lost my best friend and comrade today,
A man with a gun took him away.
My daughter said to me out of the blue
Daddy, remember, “Jesus loves you.”
I see so much injustice in this bad world.
What kind of future comes for my little girl?
I get so down wondering what she will do,
And comes a small voice saying “Jesus love you.”
Shining eyes coming straight from God.
I am her father, isn’t this odd?
I should teach her the way to the truth,
Instead she tells me “Jesus love you.
I go to my church looking for answers.
I’m a policeman, I often take chances.
It could have me whose life is now through,
Then my five year old says “Jesus love you.”
I fall to my knees to God in thanksgiving
I ask Him why I should be the one living.
Why was I spared with the wrong I do?
Then come those words “Jesus love you.”
Taking her hand up to the altar,
I pray to Jesus, my voice does not falter.
You sent forth this child to lead me to you.
Thank you Dear Jesus, I love you too.
